Dennison Joseph is a legendary, Bristol-based reggae bassist and vocalist who has served as a defining pillar of the UK roots reggae movement for over four decades. He is best known as a co-founding member and the driving rhythmic heartbeat of Talisman, one of the most important and influential roots reggae bands to emerge from the UK in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Holding down the low-end while delivering powerful lead and backing vocals, Dennison’s heavy, melodic basslines helped propel Talisman to national acclaim.

The band’s seminal 1981 debut single, Dole Age / Free Speech (engineered by David Lord and co-produced alongside UK Scientist), was crowned Single of the Week by NME and cemented the “Bristol Stylee” reggae-punk explosion into music history.

Over his expansive career, he has toured extensively, shared stages with reggae royalty, and played an active role in chronicling the cultural identity of Bristol’s St. Paul’s community.

In addition to his legendary work with Talisman, Dennison remains an active and vital creative force in the contemporary independent roots scene. He frequently collaborates with modern analogue production units, recently pairing up with the Bristol studio band The Co-Operators to release the heavy, horn-laden message-music track Come Make We under Waggle Dance Records, showcasing his enduring talent for vocal arrangement and songwriting.
